In support of gender equality

Equality in Tourism honours gender equality work at ITB Berlin 2023 for the first time

14 December 2022

A new award that sends a clear signal: in partnership with Equality in Tourism International, ITB Berlin is for the first time presenting an award for gender equality work. Its aim is to drive improvements and encourage tourism actors to take action and incorporate gender equality measures in their operations. The award will be presented at ITB Berlin 2023. Those wishing to enter have until 17 January 2023 to apply at www.equalityintourism.org/gender-equality-award.

Companies and organisations in the tourism and hospitality sector can take part – regardless of size or geographical location. Application is via a questionnaire comprising 19 items. The short list will be determined based on this survey, combined with contextual questions. A panel of judges will then decide on the best entry.

In addition to Rika Jean-Francois, CSR commissioner of ITB Berlin, panel members will include Dr Stroma Cole, Lucy Ferguson and Maud Kumbirayi Masiyiwa. Dr Cole is director of Equality in Tourism and reader in tourism at the University of Westminster, London. Lucy Ferguson is a senior consultant and researcher with 15 years of experience in gender mainstreaming, gender training and international development. Maud Masiyiwa has extensive experience facilitating women’s empowerment in tourism businesses in Southern Africa. Additional members are due to join the panel during the course of December.
