Best Practice Examples for Gender Equality in Focus
Following its successful debut this year, the Gender Equality Award by Equality in Tourism will once again be presented at the world's leading travel trade show in 2024. Applications are now being accepted. The organization is a non-profit institution that promotes gender equality in the tourism and hospitality industry. The award was significantly shaped in 2023 with the participation of ITB Berlin. Last March, the title of Gender Equality Champion was awarded to the travel operator Travel Excellence, originating from Costa Rica.
With this award, Equality in Tourism aims to advance gender equality in the global tourism industry and assist companies in integrating these principles into their business policies. The prize seeks to commend tourism organizations that are making commendable strides towards gender equality.
Furthermore, the award aims to identify best practices, drive improvements, highlight outstanding achievements, and positively reinforce leaders who are already doing exceptional work in this area. Organizations and companies from around the world operating in the industry can now submit their applications. The award will be presented during ITB Berlin, which will take place next year from March 5 to 7. The deadline for submissions is January 17, 2024.
The current jury members are Dr. Stroma Cole, Director at Equality in Tourism and lecturer in tourism at the University of Westminster in London, Maud Masiyiwa, founding member of the Meadowlands Tourism Development Centre and the Ndofaya Cooking School in Soweto, South Africa, Lucy Ferguson, international specialist in gender issues in tourism, who earned her doctorate on this topic in 2007, and Rika Jean Francois, CSR representative of ITB Berlin.
